Donation Following Determination of Death by Neurologic Criteria (DNC)
FREE
For patients near death, standard end-of-life care should include offering the option of organ and tissue donation. All patients who are suspected to be neurologically deceased should have an assessment to document death determination by neurologic criteria and to establish donor eligibility.
This course reviews:
1. The concept of death determination by neurological criteria
2. The pathophysiology of neurological death
3. Diagnostic criteria for DNC declaration including minimum clinical criteria and ancillary testing
In addition, it presents a clinical approach to death determination by neurological criteria which is supported by evidence for each task.
